BF130 and Sea Start Cylinder HC5347

So after 15 Years the Sea Star Cylinders on my engines needed to be replaced as the cylinder walls had pitted on the inside.

Sea Star told me the only cylinder that would fit my 246 World Cat Front Install was the HC 5347 so I got 2 new cylinders of course they d not fit :)

My Engine has an Aluminum Adapter wit SH stamped on it where the old Steering adapter a large Rectangular attachment attaché to the old cylinder.

I was thinking possible I need a different adaptor with h new cylinder

Email to Sea Star Support sent today.

I had talked to Marc about 2 weeks ago and he helped meconfirm which Cylinder to Order to upgrade my old Teleflex Cylinders as you nolonger made this Cylinder and it was beyond Servicing due to interior pitting.

Motors are Twin Honda 2000 BF 130 HP AYLA
It’s on a World Cat with a Liquid Tie Bar.

Original Cylinder looked like this:

and had this adapter plate that attached the Cylinder andEngine:

New Cylinder had same size Steering Tube Support but theCylinder Rod was about 3.5” Shorter and the Support arms on the new unit whereshorter. I spoke to Teleflex support on Friday afternoon and he confirmed itwas the correct Cylinder and by design it was now shorter than the old one andit should be OK. I installed it on the engine and it fit correctly on theSteering Tube but had issues with the Engine.

2 Issues where present:

  1. The new cylinder Support arms where not deepenough to allow the Cylinder to clear the engine steering tube as the brackethits the tube as shown in the photo:

  1. The Engine Connection point does not come closeto aligning up on the engine steering arm.

If the Support arms where about 2 inches deeper it wouldclear the Steering tube and I could modify the Aluminum Attachment block tomake it work but it might also be I have the wrong cylinder Bracket as I saw inthe manual 4 optional bracket plates that could be ordered.

I wanted to get your thoughts on the issues.

The one thing that I am not sure about what you have is an "air tie bar". I have not heard that term before.

The Honda Rigging book said to use the HC5347 Cylinders, HO5044A Adapters http://www.ebay.com/itm/TELEFLEX-HO...OAT-TIE-ROD-ADAPTER-PLATES-PAIR-/400499661351 and HO5009 Tie bar http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRACKER-MAR...IDE-MOUNT-BOAT-STEERING-TIE-BAR-/400394928230

The Sea Star Steering site indicates the same parts.

The tie bar is just a straight adjustable tie bar. Although it may not be long enough to go between your two motors. It may be what you already have or you could reuse the one you have.

Page 38 of the Instructions, shows how it all goes together.

I spoke to sea star today and they straightened me out, i needed to remove the old aluminum adaptor and then the cylinder aligned to the tiler correctly.

the world cat use a liquid tie bar which includes the 2 cylinders separated by a valve.

Glad you have it straightened out.

For my education, could you post a picture of the liquid tie bar arrangement when you get everything together?

Thanks.

Mike
