BF 130 Shift Rod A removal

Hello: Anyone know how to release the top of "Shift Rod A" from the "Shift Shaft B"?
This is the rod that connects the splined shaft from the top of the gear case, up through
the swivel tube, to the female spline of the shifting mechanism (shift shaft A/B) at the
power head. No help from the shop manual that I can find, apart from a diagram showing
an inaccessible "stopper ring". Thanks for any help.

Grip shift rod A with a pair of vice grips or pliers, then tap on the vice grips with a hammer & the shift rod will drop out.
The "stopper ring" is a tension circlip to hold the shift rod in place for assembly purposes.

Thanks, Bobmech! I had my suspicions that that was the answer, but I didn't want to start hammering
before getting some experienced feedback.
