Is it OK to straighten or do I need a new one?

I would at least have a go at straightening it. You got to get it properly straight though or it will put strain on the seal. Probably need setting up on a press to do it properly.

$102 for a new one says straighten it to me

Change the seal what ever.

I used 3 wood dowels in my vise to form a break and rolled it across the iron bed of my table saw to find the kinks. I used crocus to polish the rod in the seal area. Seemed to work out well.

The real problem was that it shoved the pawl that engages the piston shaft into the vee section of the cover and it was bound tight. There is not much clearance between the pawl and the cover. Had to do a rough straightening just to remove the cover. I slide it thru the cover in the shift range of the rod and it seems to track true and not bind. I had just replaced the O-ring seal.
