Just rebuilt my 1998 454. I want to run it in the shop before I install it. I have everything figured out except - Can I just put 12v to the hot side of the coil to get ignition power? Does the module get power from there or??? Will the knock sensors not being hooked up make any difference? What about the oil and temp alarm sensors? I wouldn't think they would but....?
Thanks

"What is your reasoning, if I may ask?
Just an FYI.... you must load this engine to properly apply pressure behind piston rings for correct cylinder wall seating. IOW's, I'd not run this with the intent of any run-in time with no load!
I'd get her installed and start my break-in procedure!
All of your electrical connections, all cooling system connections, all fuel connections, etc.... will all be right there and working!

If I/O, don't forget engine drive coupler alignment!

"Bill,

I bench run every engine prior to installing it. One time with a leaky oil adapter fitting and you will too.

Connect everything or you will set off DTC codes.

If you supply power to the purple wire in the main engine connector you will power up the entire engine.

If you are running it with water hooked to it be sure and put exhaust hoses on otherwise it will suck the water back in the exhaust and flood the cylinders.

Good luck,
Rick"

"I with Rick, I run every one on the floor and do timing at the same time."

"Thanks guys,
I've built several sb chryslers and always run them prior to installation. Not to break them in but just to check for leaks, oil pressure and any odd knocks, rattles or tings... I think its a good idea. Its carbureted so there are no EFI electronic issues. I just wasn't sure how to power up the ignition. The wiring diagram shows the purple wire just like Rick said. I just wanted to make sure. Thanks.. Summer is not too far away!!!!!"

"Well, for those reasons, I agree with you guys!
If you have a means of powering the ignition safely, and of providing cooling water, then it is a benefit to do this. We agree here!
