Probably a simple answer but thanks for humouring me!

I have a 2002 8HP std shaft 2 stroke that has a healthy spark on both plugs and appears to have a fuel feed as far as I can see it (up to the opague filter) yet it will not even fire...is there something simple that I'm missing? I've only just bought this so am not at all conversant with it's ways.

Many thanks..oh the fuel is new 100/1 mixed.

Have you tried changing plug wires around ?-------------Try removing sparkplugs and put a few drops of fuel in there.----Replace plugs and see if motor will at least try to run.----Do you know if motor sat for a long time with fuel in it ?-If so then the carburetor may be plugged and require cleaning.

Thanks for the quick response - No, I've not tried switching the leads, will try that tonight. I was told that the engine had been recently serviced and the plugs do look new-ish..there is a spark at each of them but I'll try it the other way round.

I'm not sure if it sat for any length of time...is cleaning an air line job or a job for an engineer?

Thanks again, I appreciate the help!

This may be stating the obvious but is your kill-switch clip in place?

If not familiar with this, is there a red button on your handle and if yes is the clip in place that holds it out?
I got bit by this once,
tom

Thanks for all the suggestions, sorry not to have got back but having a bit of severe weather here and haven't been able to get to the engine to try these - will report back as soon as I have a chance. I don't have a compression tester...is there a 'rule of thumb' type guide?

Thanks again

Thanks again

Has compression certainly, tried the 'Easy-Start' squirted in and it fired for the first time since I got it so I'm guessing it must be the carburettor or diaphragmthat's wrong...all looks very tight fitting so perhaps I'd best take it to a dealer unless there are any suggestions that don't involve taking too much apart?

Is the diaphragm the square box shaped bit by the filter...is it easy ro spot if it's damaged?

Sorry for the idiot questions...they come very easily to an idiot :)
