Belt Identification

1958, 1959 V4 50hp Evinrude/Johnson Generator belt (If so equipped... Not sure the engine was equipped for it that far back.)

1960, 1961 75hp Evinrude/Johnson Generator belt... For sure!

Thanks Joe for the reply. I have an original 1966 Evinrude Accessories Catalog. Would this belt be compatible with the belt #1 shown here? '66 Generator Kit-1.jpg

Yes. It fits all V-4 motors that have a belt-driven DC generator. (Not to be confused with the magneto/distributor belt)

Back in the day some motors including the V-4 were manual start with a magneto.----------No battery required on these motors.--------The generator was an option.---------Not many fish finders / stereos / gps units in those days.------------Magneto produces the spark for the plugs.---------Generator charges the battery !

What racerone said. Two completely different items. There is a third also---battery ignition, similar to old cars of the day. But all that was changed when electronic ignition and AC alternators took over.

Yeah, very true as us old guys are well aware... you and me included. However a dead battery would sure cause a frown to appear!
