a 77 should have the side pucks for trim limit and trim sender. Remove the phillips screws, remove puck, remove hinge pins. Use the proper tool or a 1/2 inch allen wrench. Using a 1/4 inch ratchet set and long extentions and a universal joint loosen the transom below clamp and remember how it faces. loosen the shift bellow clamp and remember how it faces. Remove/ loosen the exaust bellow clamps and remove it.
Remove the screw holding the SS bonding wire, Using a long screwdriver free the main bellow by working the rubber off the transom housing side from inside the bellow, Remove gimbal rearward. If your replacing the water hose, cut it now. Remove water hose clamp ,remember how it was facing. Remove rear bellows clamp, remember how it was facing.
Remove shift bellow from transom (razor knife). NOW LISTEN.
Get a old shift control cable solid core not a lower shift cable core. Remove the shift cable from the shift plate, loosen the 2 square set screws, pull off plastic sleeve. loosen remove the cable guide tube,(unscrew it ).outside the boat pull the shift slide and shift cable core out . From inside the boat pass the control cable thru the casing out the white plastic tube and visegrip the SS core . It will act as a guide.pull gimbal back and off the boat leaving the SS guide
Clean everything , apply bellows adhesive/ 3M weatherstrip adhesive/ contact cement to the bellow and install the shift cable bellow remembering the clamp placement .The bellow has FWD TOP and AFT. Top Aft is the gimbal side , install and clamp, remembering clamp placement
Install new water hose remembering the clamp placement on the transom. Install exaust bellow or boot.clamp in place
Now pat attention
Practice test installing the bellow.Slide it on the transom housing and you`ll feel it pop on.When confident, apply sealant, install and tighten.
