bellhousing bushing removal

whats the process for removing the bellhousing upper and lower shift shaft bushings on alpha 1 gen 2?
also to install are they pressed in or can they be tapped into place?

I believe they are pressed in, but you can tap them out.

There posision is very critical so measure depth, hieght or what ever you can to get an acurate location.........if not at the right hight/location it will cause shift issues.....

I believe there is also a seal at each bushing to keep water intrusion into the gimbal housing.

They can be tapped in. The parts you get may be different than what you have now as some have been superseded by different parts. The new upper has the seals built in and bottoms out when you tap it in.

Thanks BtDoctur,Kghost and WoodieMan for your help. Great site, always receive prompt responses and the best advice.I did manage to tap out the upper bushing althought the lower bushing (correct me if I'm wrong) does not have a seal? Not sure whether to try and replace bottom bushing. I did order bushing kit # 23-806036A1 which will be here wednesday. We have no local boat part stores here besides the helpless West Marine. Thanks again and any advice for me on this would be appreciated.

No seal in lower bushing. The kit you bought has both bushings and seals for the upper. Replace the lower bushing also. There are special tools but you can do it without them, it's not that difficult. Use a socket or something similar and tap evenly into place. Look at where the old bushings sit before removing them. The seals must be inserted facing a specific direction, check the instructions or they will not seal properly.
