"Short story, I had a drive bellows fail, had to pull the engine and rebuild the intermediate shaft bearing and seals.

When I put the engine and housing back into the transom shield, should I use any type of sealant on the two large O-rings?

When I cleaned everything up, the last person that installed engine and clamping ring seemed to use the aviation brownish gasket sealant.

I also have read in here that some people use sealant on the bellows, what do you use? I've always just installed them dry.

Thanks

"I use Perfect Seal compound or similar (Loctite Gasket Sealant, OMC Gasket Sealing Compound, etc) for the rings and the bellows, as well as the bolts for the clamping ring. It works for me."

Is there any torque setting for the 6 bolts the got through the clamping ring and into the bell housing?

Or are they used to adjust the bell housing to transom shield alignment (left and right)?

"I always tighten them in several stages until they bottom-up in the bellhousing (two opposite bolts at the time), then lock the tabs. Remember to coat the threads and shanks with Perfect Seal, or you may encounter problems next time you try to remove them."
