I have a 1996 evinrude 10 hp . It doesn't seem to open up like others I've had. At full throttle, if I pull out the choke about 3/16 in., my rpms go up a good amount. I clamped it in place with a pair of hemostats.Ran all day with no start up, idle or throttling issues. Sound like dirt in carb ? I had it in service shop to replace impeller and they tanked it. Said rpms were good and compression test was good.Would like some opinion before I take anything apart. Thanks

Is this boat motor combo new to you? How big is the boat? WOT is around 5500rpm for that motor if your pushing around alot of weight you may need a prop with less pitch?

No. I bought boat, motor, trailer in fall of 2014. Ran motor in barrel before I bought. Boat was a shell. No interior. Spent winter installing ribs, flotation, floor and 3 pedestal seats. With motor, fuel, tackle and 2 10lb anchors it scaled at 610lbs.Caught water pump failure in barrel. Took to shop. Ran that summer but just seemed sluggish. Same last year. Service guy said clean carb myself and save on labor. I just like a second opinion.

1960 starcraft 16.5 aluminum. I got the boat, motor and trailer for $500. Sunk about $500 more into and have a pretty nice fishing package. Motors in garage at the moment. I think size/pitch is 9x7. It's standard size for it.

Yea thats too much boat for that motor to get up on a plane especially with a few bodies in it. Basically that is a good trolling motor tho if you want to go faster you need at least 20hp. Right now it is like a small barge a sailboat prop may bring the rpms up some but not enough to hit a good plane.

ok. Called my service guy and lucky had nothing going on today. Tanked motor and ran even worse. RPMs down to 4200. Pulled carb, cleaned and new gaskets, back to 5500. Shop said probably caused from hauling motor home laying on its side in back of my truck loosened some sediment. Can't wait until sunday to put on the water ! Shop was cool. $50 parts and labor.

Success!! went out for about 2 hours, put it through everything. Forward, back, idle, trolled 20 minutes, shut down and sat for 1 hour, fired up, WOT down the lake with about 3 ft of the back on the water. Its a good package!
