beep beep beep oil alarm

well guys my 2005 mercury 150 hp outboard started the beep thing said 100 % oil remaining .. we started heading back to dock .. on the way in oil level in aux tank said was dropping slowly showed was dropping so we checked it and aux tank was full let it run a few seconds with cap off and oil was pumping into aux tank .. but gauge was still showing oil level dropping ! got all the way down to 33% oil remaining and went into limp home mode ! 1000 rpm only but it got us to the dock .. cecked at dock oil tank still overflowing ? oil sensor-switch or module ????took tank off thoroughly cleaned it and float seems to be working !
