bearing housing for prop shaft

I have an o m c 5.7 liter I believe its the older style 85 and older I'm having 2 problems I cant get the water pump out nor can I get the housing for the prop shaft out I split the case already
 
What manual you working out of ?

The water pump you have the 4 bolts out ? If yes you will have to spin it, first get the metal cover off, i use a large channel lock, then with a screw driver and a hammer i tap the water pump housing to make it spin. Should come out easy.

The prop shaft problem where are you exactly in the process?
 
Im taking water pump out to change screen previous owner had to run into sand because it has rocks in it I've tried pulling up on pump shaft will move about and inch and stop ... now the prop shaft im all the way to having the prop off the 4 bolts are out and I have no manual doing this from videoes online the whole reason im doing this is water is getting in lower end and yesterday I took it out on water for 1 hr brought it back and lowered motor the gravity showed me were it was leaking right were the prop shaft bearing housing is.
 
To be clear on the drive you do not have rams but instead a half moon gear to move the drive up and down. If correct you need Selcoc manual #3400 in the right hand corner can be had at any west marine store.

Screen is in lower unit. There is a screw that holds the screen in must be removed. You need a spanner wrench and a pair of long snap ring pliers, i made a pair out of the longest long nose i could find.

Yes no rams I got the lower unit all together working great now to figure out why popping when secondary open I believe the new points aren't set right
 
Before you pull your hair out - put a vacuum gauge on that engine.

If the needle is steady - that is good news

If its wandering - then the problem is bigger than the carburetor.

You may have a sticky lifter/valve.

Of course, if the fuel is stale- change that me i would run it on a fresh fuel in a portable fuel tank.
 
Well I checked gas and it smelled bad so I drained it now the popping I figured out the other owner doesn't know how to time an engine. Out of the 8 wires 2 of them were correct I couldn't believe it I timed engine and redone were the wires go and wow it runs like a raped ape thanks for the help
