BB140A fuel pump question

We are so close to running aga

We are so close to running again. Just one more question:
The fuel pump will not prime itself pulling thru 15' of new 3/8" fuel line and the canister type fuel filter. There are no suction leaks. Do I need to fill the lines and prime the pump or is my pump defective?

"It would take some cranking to draw gas through fifteen feet of line. Beyond that, the pump should be self priming so unless there is an air leak the pump is probably bad. The pump originally supplied with the AQ 140 had a small filter inside. That pump can be taken apart for inspection or rebuild. However, the rebuild kit costs more than a new pump."

I neglected to comment on the "canister" fuel filter. This should be filled with gas before screwing into the housing.
