batterys over charging

Hi, I have a 1987 Johnson 70 VRO, it was not charging before so I replaced the rectifier and now it is over charging my batteries when I am cruising at full throttle. Any suggestions?

Replace the round rectifier with the regulator used on the later models from around 92. A well known problem.
#63 on below diagram.

The other option is to buy an old type FULL maintenance battery with high internal leakage!

Thx, so basically my new "maintenence Free" battery is not compatible with my old school engine? By the way, what should my votage meter be reading? I've heard 14.5 at max, does that sound right. Also, I appreciate your time, thank you!

If climbing past 15 Volts, you run the risk of burning instruments and your navigation lights will be rather short lived.
13,8 - 14,5 might be ideal on a fully charged battery.
