"i read mortens seminar about the battery situation and visited the site he listed.....now my little brain is smoking. being an auto mech i always bought the biggest battery i could find/afford that would fit in place.

i looked up the stator for the '84 in question on the thread and it has a 10amp just like my '79. morten reccomends a 60-90amp hour battery for starting or a switch to turn off the battery conn, i cant afford the switch now that i bought a full tank of gas for the boat.

morten also says the higher the ca the quicker the discharge and that these motors need a high leakage battery.

carl spillman says he thinks that the reccomended batery is 350-400 ca.

ive already replaced the rectifier once probably due to the crappy battery i was running in it for a while, and dont want to buy another and cant afford a stator.

i have a everstart maxx dual purpose marine with 875 ca ,reserve 205, part # maxx 29 (is this the group?).......and a everstart maxx car 825 ca, 690 cca, part # maxx 75n.the car battery is back up right now......i couldnt find anything about a group # on either....both are about a moth old.

what i want to do is put the marine up front and use the car battery to start.

do i have the right car battery to do this or is it too large?

is my marine battery too large for this application also?....i got a big one cause i like my trolling motor.

sorry about the book, youd think bein an auto mech i could understand but im confused.

thanks for the help guys."

"battery discussions,..are muc

"battery discussions,..are much like,..which oil is best,or ,which engine is best,....always many opinions.
At my shop,i carry 2 types of cranking Batt's.
a 500 cca and a 1000 cca.Now,we use the 500's in every thing beneath v6's,and in some small i'o engines.I use the 1000's in v6's,and big block,350 up,i/o's,unless the customer prefer's differently,with 0 problems.both are group 24 marine cranking batt's."

"would my car battery fall int

"would my car battery fall into this group 24?

the site ,http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_FAQ.htm#Major%20Battery%20Types, says group 24 are rated at 70-85 amp hours.

should i look into buying a marine starting battery and put this one in my tractor?

before i bought these 2 batterys i stole the one from my tractor and it barley got me started a few times (not to mention i think thats what fried my rec)....not a good feelin out in the middle of robert s kerr lake with the arkansas river runnin through it and a good swift current.

thanks for the help jwb!

i never thought i would be this confused about batterys."

"I do believe in "MARINE&#

"I do believe in "MARINE" batteries.I see lots of wal-mart batts in boats too.i am looking on my batt chart,...and the 2 batts above i mentioned, are cca 500 & 800,and,ca at 32 degrees,500=625 & the 800 is rated at 1000.the amp rating on mine are--95 and 135 respectfully."

"oh,and a group 24,is a reg ol

"oh,and a group 24,is a reg ol sized battery,..the 27 & up,are quite longer,as in trolling motor batteries."

"thanks jwb!

the whole reas

"thanks jwb!

the whole reason for my asking is that the reason i want to put the dual purpose up front is because i think my troller wires are crystalized ,due to the fact they are gettin hot.... i have a cheap pair of jumper cables ,the wife bought thinkin she was doin good bless her heart, that im gonna use to rewire my troller... they arent long enough to reach the back but should give plenty of juice up close.

although i did like the idea of having a fully charged battery for back up the troller is more important this weekend....provided the reminance of ike doesnt ruin it for me.

thanks again!"
