Yeah I did it, put a cheap, not sealed lead acid battery which has always been ok in the past with older motors, in my boat with a 96 225 with a new rectifier. Duh? even after i read here not too...
charged normal first couple times out, then today towards end of run volts pegged at 17 over 3000rpm. below that normal 13.8. went straight in.... I'm getting a new interstate marine 24M XHD starting batt. IS THAT A COMPATIBLE BATTERY? and other Question is did I fry my rectifier? or is it a try it and see? tach was working normal. THANKS ALL....
