hi I have a 1984 evinrude70 hp that will run in neutral but when you put in gear at about 1800rpm it falls flat on its face the motor sat two yrs I checked compression and it as 118 105 110 if I push in key it picks up a bit took carbs apart and high speed jets are clean fuel pump seems to be pumping good don't know what to do next plugs are new

How long have you owned it.---Those compression numbers are not good in my opinion.----Do you have spark on all 3 leads ?---Checked flywheel key ?
 
My tester would show 140+ on those motors.----Cost you a head gasket to have a look in there.-----A cheap inspection !

ok so what would I look for with head off other then the rings and the motor only un 15 minutes is it long enough before a compression check?

Do you have spark on all 3 leads, spark that will jump a gap of 3/8" or more , yes or no ?----Have you looked at the flywheel key ?

I just went over where the boat is and think I found the problem its not moving the timing its real stiff so I soaked it with carb cleaner its moving better now thank you guys for all your help
