"Can anybody tell me what is the purpose of the baffles in the carbs in my 1995 Merc 40 HP 4cyl engine.....Also, someone told me that you could run this engine without the backdraft jets in the carbs...this would just make the engine run a little richer...anybody know if this is true...thanks in advance for any help on this.....OHHHHHH....Thanks to Graham for some excellent help on the fuel enrichment systems back on the 19th.....Fixed that prob.....THanks again....Bob"

What do you mean by "baffles"?

You can remove that piston eating backdraft system without wrecking anything, but you might need to jet leaner to maintain performance.

Thanks Jeff....the baffles i am talking about are in the fuel bowls of each carb. Just wondering what their purpose....Bob
