Bad rectifier.

I have deteined that I have a bad rectifier on my 2000 40hp Johnson. My question is will it hurt anything to take the boat out while I am waiting on the part to come in? Currently the yellow wire from the rectifier is disconnected and it seems to run fine in the driveway on the muffs. There is a no-wake lake close that I would like to fish while waiting.

the rectifier has nothing to do with the motor running...just do as kim says and have a fully charged battery on the ignition and use it for just the ignition...a fully charged battery is good for many many starts on this engine...you dont have to use the manufacturers rectifier on it..you can get one from radio shack at a fraction of the cost...buy two if you got a sealed or gel battery in the boat..you will need the replacement sooner or later...this is a known problem on the rectifier only systems with the newer batteries..you can also hook a battery up backwards and blow it...

Tried disconnecting one of the yellow rectifier wires, engine still runs really rough and inconsistent. Brought it home hooked wire back up; top cylinder has good steady light with timing light. Bottom cylinder good fire at low speed but starts missing at 2500-3000 rpms. Disconnected. Oth yellow wires and cranks and runs smooth. Engine ran at 3000 rpms very smooth for about 30 seconds and then just bogs down and dies. Do I have another problem or do I need to disconnect the purple and red wires also from the rectifier? Checked the stator using th guide in the CDI manual and stator checks out fine.
