"Yesterday I went and hooked up a water line to the out drive turned the water on and fired up the 120 to charge the battery a bit before tonights trip to Lake Mead. Well idiot me forgot to take the plug out of the hose attachment and put it in the bottom of the drive. The engine ran only between Idle and maybe 1800 rpms for about 1-1 1/2 minutes. How much damage did I cause if any. What does that plug do or not do that is necessary.

"What plug are you talking about? Could you be a bit more specific or attach a picture?

If you are talking about not plugging the hole at the bottom of the outdrive (where the red arrow points) that should not be a big deal, no damage should occur as long as there was sufficient water circulating through the engine.

"Well thats the thing. The plug that is supposed to go in the hole you are pointing to was in it's "storage area" which is in the suction cup/water supply thingy, blocking all water to the engine.

"Well, I think that if you ran the engine without water for only 1 to 1-1/2 minute at 1800 RPM and without load you may need a new raw water pump impeller and maybe the hose attaching the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe. I think it is very unlikely that any other damage could have happened in such short period of time."

"Probably no damage to the wat

"Probably no damage to the water pump itself, but I would definitely check the raw water pump impeller and replace it if there is any doubt about it's condition. Once you've done that, I would just run it again with the hose attachment (and plug installed!) and closely monitor your temperature gauge. If all seems OK, I would not hesitate to go out on the water and when you do, again, keep a close eye on your temp gauge."

"My apologies El Pescador. I used to go fishing many, many years ago on a creek named Pescadero and I guess I always associate you with that creek since your handle is so close to it. BTW, I have nothing but good memories of that creek, so this is a good thing.

"No apologies are needed, Bob.

"No apologies are needed, Bob. I hope that the creek was a very good "pescadero", as that word could also mean "a good place to fish"."
