"I have a 1984 Bayliner Capri with the AQ125a inboard... i'm not sure what the outdrive is, but where it mounts to the back of the boat it is leaking really bad. I took the boat out this weekend for the first time since I bought it in December, and the engine compartment filled with water. Unlucky for me, the bilge pump didn't work so I had to haul butt back to the dock. At first I thought maybe the plug wasn't sealed good, but when I pulled the boat up the ramp the water was rushing out (with the plug in) around the outdrive. Can anybody help?"

"You probably have a 270 or 280 outdrive.

1) What is the condition of your boat's transom where it meets the transom shield? If it is soft, you have a serious problem. Also, make sure that the 6 bolts attaching the transom shield to the transom are tight.

2) Check the condition of your upper bellows. However, even if it was broken, water should not find its way inside the boat.

3) Is the flange attaching the bell housing to the transom shield loose? To find out for sure, you may have to remove the outdrive's upper gear assembly.

4) Is the shifting cable hose broken? The shifting cable is jacketed with a hose. Check the hose is attached to the transom shield and it is intact.

5) What is the condition of the exhaust pipe where it is attached to the transom shield? Sometimes electrolysis and corrosion end perforating the pipe and you end flooding your bilges.

6) There is one or two plastic (or brass) plugs covering some ports in the transom shield. Make sure they are intact.

7) What is the conditon of the raw water intake pipe where it is attached to the transom shield?

8) Is your tilt motor attached properly to the transom shield?

Good luck."

I have a Volvo AQ125A BOAT engine with a bad water pump and want to replace it without buying the full $600 kit. Thought that water pumps could be remanufactured.
