backfiring @ low rpm

My i/o is a 2005 6.2 MPI w/ Bravo od. The boat seems to run fine and then while running at low rpm (1000) or so it starts to loose power and stall. To combat this I pump the throttle vigorously to keep it going. It starts backfiring and stalling. I've had a diagnostic computer put on it and nothing showed up. I just had a new fuel pump put in at the beginning of the season. Its the type that is two (2) stage and water cooled.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

It starts backfiring
Cylinder compression good? Dirty spark arrestor? Water in the fuel? Spark plugs good? Injectors dirty? Try a double dose of Merc fuel injector cleaner or equal like Seafoam. Watch the engine running in the dark for spark wires leaking or cross firing. You will see the light show if it is a spark issue. Use an alternate fuel tank/source to exclude your tank.

And check your gas: might have water in it, or ethanol contamination. Easiest way to do this is to rug up an outboard tank and run off of it.
