"I just purchased this motor and got it on the water today. It started right up with no problem, but once I throttled up it began to sputter and then die. It would go pretty well at low speeds, but whenever I got going very fast it would stall. After a while it began stalling even at low speeds. Does this sound like a carb issue? I know the motor needs a carb cleaning, but I got a little worried that I might have purchased a motor with more problems than just needing a clean.

Also, are there any online resources for the carb clean on this engine? I have tweaked my jeep carb before but this is my first boat motor.

"better safe than sorry, remove and clean carb, install new water pump(every 2 years) before running again. squeeze fuel bulb to see if its a fuel supply problem while runing bad. Lack of gas means lack of OIL

buy a factory manual, worth the money"
