I just bought a 1986 45 hp Mariner. Works great except the neutral throttle button doesnt seem to be working. Where do I start troubleshooting this? Is there a cellanoid like for the choke? I dont even hear the throttle linkage move while depressing the button while the shift is in neutral. Am I doing something wrong?

"There is a repair for the plastic botton, it involves alot of pieces, balls, and springs. If I remember right the old button is red and the new is black. A nice parts dealer can print the diagram. Its a major pain. You might have to wiggle the throttle as you pushthe botton if it has a chance of working"

"So, its a mechanical button, not electrical? That elliminates need to do any testing at the motor end? My motor starts fine without using it, but just wanted to figure out why it doesnt work. So where do I get this "kit"? Will it be obvious as to the broken pc? Perhaps I should just leave it alone?"

Works well, but very poor acceleration out of the hole
What prop should I have to fix this problem
Thanx, Jack"

"Chris, the button is a 2 handed operation, maybe you haven't got the right wiggle yet. Push the button in and wiggle the control then push forward on it. The control now should only move the throttle and not be in gear. The engine shouldn't start if its in gear, but will start in the foward position if the throttle only button is working.

Jack, go back to the merc page and in the top left corner is START NEW DISCUSSION. Depending on what you're pushing a 10.5x 13p is close for a 50hp of that vintage."
