"I have been rebuilding this old JC Tritoon over the last year. Hear is the latest strange thing to happen. In the driveway with the muffs on I can start the engine seams to run well. I have done this many times over the last year. Yesterday I start the engine as usual and let her run about 10 minutes and go to shut the engine down by turning the key to the off position, she keeps running, she has never done this before. I just assume it's the ignition switch. I get a new one, samething. I have to turn her off by turning the battery selector switch to off. What gives?"
 
If you have the 3 wire GM alt.

If you have the 3 wire GM alt. conversion and not the original water cooled one is a sign that a diode is bad in the alt causing it to "backfeed" into the ign. circuit or you hooked up the 2 smaller leads backward

I got it figured

I got it figured out but cannot figure out why it just started yesterday. I had bought a new light, horn etc wiring harnesses from Pontoon Stuff. It has a battery/hot wire and all else goes to lights, horn etc. I don't know why but I hook this hot wire to the accessory position on the switch. But I cannot figure out why it just started this, I'll bet it has been hookedup like this for 4 months.

there is no "accessory &#3

there is no "accessory " position on the switch
Off-Run-Start
Red:main power feed
Purple: ign and main panelfeed
Yel/red: solenoid

The switch that was on this old tritoon had an accessory position and my replacement does also.

Put the new battery in and it still lugs a little but the motor is starting better/quicker than a month or so ago, maybe warmer weather. But probably because I have been running it more. This old 470 sat in a cow pasture for five years.

Going to taker her out tomorrow and put a few hours on her wish me luck."
