I have an '81 OMC Sterndri

I have an '81 OMC Sterndrive Upper Gear Case that I am need to replace. I need to know which years are interchangable. I am having diffuclty finding parts at a reasonable price. Any suggestions on finding parts would be greatly appreciated.

by "case", do you mean just the housing? Or are you seeking a complete upper?
If the latter, you will need the following 2 bits of info to do any searching:
1. gear ratio (teeth driving/teeth driven)
2. engine model and HP

it's not just a "year" thing for interchange.

what's your budget?
might be cheaper to fix what you have.

"Have a look at these two charts - all of the years/HP's that use the 21:17 are listed. It was one of the most popular gear sets.
They would all be bolt and go whether from a 4 cylinder or V8 the uppers interchange as long as it has 21:17. You would have to shim the exhaust housing cover anytime you swap uppers, but that is pretty simple.

If you find one with a 21:16 o

If you find one with a 21:16 or 21:18 gear set you could probably make it work if you changed propellers...depends what prop you have now.
