" Joe,
Thank-you for your previous help but here is my new problem. My outboard has seriously difficulty starting. I can only get it to run when it is above half throttle. Below this, it sputters and coughs and will not run. I have had this problem before intermittently. But it will not go away now. I'm thinking that it could be fouled plugs (they are new this year with about 20 hours on them now). I have tried pumping the bulb and will check the plugs when it is out of the water. Does this engine have points? Could it be a compression problem? Any ideas. Thank-you in advance. "

"That engine does not have points. When problems arise, always (ALWAYS) check the compression and ignition before assuming anything. The compression should be in the area of 100+ PSI and even on both cylinders, and the spark (with the s/plugs removed) should jump a 7/16" gap on both cylinders. If these two areas are okay, and especially if the engine has been sitting fort awhile, I would suspect fouled carburetors.
