"I just bought a '58 fastwin 18. Got new gas for it mixed @ 24-1, changed plugs, gear oil in bottom end. When I started the engine up it would only rev up so high until I leaned out the high idle knob. Rpm's came up but the engine started to smoke some. The low idle side is pretty good. Idles low and smooth with hardly no smoke. Do these old outboards smoke some when running wot? Do you think it could use a shot of some seafoam to clean out the carbon? Could excess carbon be causing the smoking?"

"Within that 1958 18h powerhead, it incorporates bearings on allof its moving parts. As such, you can safely use the 50/1 fuel/oil mixture.

1 pint of high quality TCW-III 50/1 oil to 6 gallons of gasoline. A octane rating of 87 will be fine. That will certainly cut down on the smoking also.
