"Hi all,
New to board. I have an '01 Cobalt w/ a 5.7 GXI hooked to a duo prop. Engine bogs down when I reach 2500 rpm. Does so intermittently, but with more frequency lately. Potentially ruled out fuel pumps, filter, and water in gas.
I replace the impeller annually, no broken parts found in recent years. Boat does seem to be running hot and cold lately (when going slow and fast respectively). However the bogging down occurs independent of temp. So this may not be relevant.
Bogging down sound (throaty sound with what feels like a lack of compression) is reminiscient of same sound make a few years back when engine was overheating due to broken impeller and safety feature kicked in and limited rpm's.
Heard it could be broken and dislodged flapper valves. But the bogging down at 2500 rpm sharp has me skeptical of this.
Any clues or help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Frank"
