"You will have to search for your parts becasue the major components are no longer made. Company has been out of business for sometime now. You will need to do almost all repairs yourself because of the lack of qualified technicians. I have an early to mid 70ish OMC drive. I have gotten to like doing the work and searching for parts. If you are not willing to do the above, you will regret the purchase."

holy cow Angel. how many ways do you need to hear this? what makes you want yhis boat so much?

I do not see any problem providing the boat comes with a bungy-cord long enough to tie to the dock and may bring him back when it breaks down.

"my personal preference would be volvo drive, 290 or newer. ( the older models were fine, but most don't have power trim) coupled to a gm based small block. ( this because of numbers. lots of 'em around, easy to find parts.) I would shy away from omc stringer,& cobra. avoid yamaha stern drive, and king cobra like the plague."

"Angel, from one Islander to another, they are right, I've owned my boat for 10 years and i've had my share of problems with the cobra outdrive.I'm on my 4th unit and theve'e been rebuilt to used units and at some point or another, it will fail. Rebuilt units are very expensive. I'm looking into converting to a Volvo-Penta SX which may be an option depending on the cost of your boat. There are a few postings here with reference to the conversion, so research it. Good Luck!! victor"
