Are these rectifiers interchangeable?

The old plate-style selenium rectifier on my 74 Merc 500 50hp looks pretty toasted. I read somewhere that it can be replaced with a much cheaper but better made rectifier from Radio Shack (pic). Can anyone confirm this? Would a 25 amp be good enough?

Thanks!

All it is is a bridge I dont see why you can`t just use the new style. Be sure and solder the spade connectors on the wires and shrink wrap the ends of the wires! What is the amp output of your stator?

Service manual said the max output is 17 amperes at WOT. As long as I get one that will handle at least that, I should be okay, right? I mean, getting a 25A one will be fine, right?

i dont know about the ''better'' part but people have been using those rectifiers from radio shack for years on rectifier only charging systems...

Thank you. Interestingly, rectifiers come with amps and voltage limits. I've gleaned that amp limits are way more important than voltage. Is that correct? I'm not an electrician.
