"boat went in the water this w

"boat went in the water this weekend for the first time in 2 years, after lots of work to restore the boat and engine.

all was going well we ran the engine in realy slowly for an hour checking all the normal things, after that ran the engine no higher than 3500 rev after 2 hours, oil pressure good at showing 80 on dial at 100 rpm and the 120-25 at 3500 rpm.then we got stopped by harbour patrol for licence check so we switched engine off for a brief 5 mins.

got back on boat and continued on our mary happy way for another 10ish mins then comeing off the plain all was well we then idled for a bit we heard a knocking from engine, managed to get to a pontoon lifted the cover to check obvisious signs of anything. started engine again it ran but realy vibrating and still with loud knock.

at home tonight inspected engine, first thing there is now play in flywheelabout 5 mm slack movement.

The 290 drive is removed now and water pump when turning the the crankshaft pulley there is a horrible heavy sounding and feeling noise.

Im so gutted after all this time getting ready and having a feel of the boat running for this now to happen is soul distroying.

My question is this

WE did encounter heavy seas going out of harbour and i was on and off the trottle keeping the boat safe and settled. i have read that in this forum that the crank shaft can be damaged by throttling on and off frequently.

is there any truth in this .
