This 1991 5.7 liter carb engin

This 1991 5.7 liter carb engine will not idle. It makes docking a nightmare! Maybe a coincidence but it got worst when weather turned very cold. Is there a solution or is it down to being an old engine. Are there any EFI conversion kits out there?

"Make sure the automatic choke

"Make sure the automatic choke is working and that the butterfly control is not seized or sticky. Also, when was the last time you set the idle mixture and the float levels in your Holley?

Other things you may want to look for is water in the fuel, cleanliness of the fuel strainers inside the carb, and make sure you don't have bad gas. Your dizzy and ignition wires could also be the problem. You may wat to remove the dictributor cap and rotor and check everything is fine (no corrosion or wear). Also, unplug the ignition wires from the distributor cap and check for corrosion, If you haven't replaced the wires, the rotor and the cap for awhile, consider doing it now. And if you have time, remove the electronic ignition module inside the distributor and check the condition of the advance weights (they could be seized) and the springs (they could be broken)."

"Solved the problem by purchas

"Solved the problem by purchasing a brand new carb. The original equipment is no longer available however www.trickettmarineproducts.co.uk supplied a newer version: MP426574. It was easy to fit and the engine now runs like new, starts easy, holds smooth constant revs without stalling etc. Should I spray the new carb with anything in order to protect it from the sea air / dirt or grease the external moving parts with marine grease?"
