AQ225D replacement options

I have a 1985 Bayliner with an AQ225D (305 Chevy) with a cracked block. I am not able to find a used AQ225D, but there are newer motors available. Is an AQ231A compatible with an AQ225D?

I’m not familiar with the Volvo AQ drive train but since that 1985 Chevy V8 uses a 2 piece main seal you may have to use an engine that has the same design. In 1986 Chevy changed to a one piece main seal so you may have to stay with an 85 block or older. One way to identify is by block casting numbers. When you decide these #s you will learn if it had the 1 piece or 2 piece rear main seal.

Pardon my ignorance but.... Since the interface between the drive itself and the engine is at the flywheel and bolt pattern level/interface on the block for the "flywheel cover" what difference does one vs 2 piece rear seal make???

Ayuh,...... Yer right, but if a newer motor is used, you need the right flywheel to make it fit,..... The crankshaft bolt pattern changed at that time,.....
