Hi all
looking at a complete

Hi all
looking at a complete non-running AQ205A with 280 outdrive as a source of a raw-water pump and other spares for my AQ200D and 280 drive. From what I can see from the exploded views the engines appear identical apart from one having two more cylinders than the other!
Is the raw water pump compatible?
Is the outdrive going to be a straight swap?
Would the four-barrel carb work if I got a compatible inlet manifold?
Thanks in advance.
Martin

"The raw water is compatible,

"The raw water is compatible, but the cooling capacity is smaller: you may run into problems. The outdrive should also be a straight swap, but you may (or may not) have to replace the u-joint yoke depending on whether your primary drive shaft has the coarse (10) or fine(26) spline. The carb should work, but it may not give you the performance you are looking for.

I think you would be better off looking for another 305 (or even 350) based VP AQ series engine as your source of spare parts rather than a V6."

"Martin, My guess is that you

"Martin, My guess is that you are after the drive more than any of this. I'd check to make sure, but some of the V-6's used the 1.61:1 over-all gear ratio as does your V-8. Much may depend on the hull this was removed from.

The ratio will be stampped into the prop shaft bearing carrier just ahead of the ring anode.
Transmissions are the same, minus a possible helmet pin connection difference.... and 10 or 26 count yoke splines.

If it's cheap enough, it may be worth picking up.

I think that the impeller p/n is same, so the sea water pump may work. They are so inexpensive right now, I'd not be real concerned with a used pump.... buy new!
The Carb will likely work!
Flywheel Cover will work!
The transom shield may work!
Starter should interchange!
Alternator may.

You probably need to spend some time doing a cross referrence of p/n's.

Good luck with it.

Rick"
