AQ175A with a 280 outdrive that is disfunctional

My 280 outdrive just flops aro

My 280 outdrive just flops around and rests at the bottom of its cycle. Soon I will tackle this project. What should I look at first? Motor? Gears? Does this unit have a common part that fails? Any help would be great.
