Aq171c pumping water in engine bay

Hey guys, I could use some help. I took my boat out today with plans on a nice day of fishing. Didn't happen. Drove to where I wanted to begin trolling and got 2 lines in the water then noticed my engine skipping and sputtering. Opened up the engine bay and realized I had taken on some serious water. Immediately turned on the pump and limped it to the shorline. Long story short, my engine is pumping water into the engine bay through this hose that is coming out of the bottom of the heat exchanger. Is this just a blown seal? What does it take to fix it? Zero experience with this situation. First boat purchased last uear. Help please!!

You need to pull the pipe and put new seals on both ends of the pipe. That being the 171 it goes into the oil cooler correct. What possibly happened was it had water that froze and pushed the gasket out. I put a light coat of permatex on the gasket so it slides into the hole easier it is a tight fit. Do not use silicone anywhere on a boat motor it will let you down normally sooner than later. You may need a new pipe if that one is corroded real bad?

Volvo has a love affair with tubes and seals that don't stand the test of time. Most look like yours with some sealant all over. When the seals get old and hard, they don't work. It's probably easier or cheaper to assemble in the factory. Most people have trouble with them. A new seal shouldn't need sealer. Depending on the engine model it can be difficult to get the tube and seals in place and not leak. Don't bend the tube, especially where the seal goes.

My first boat had a 1800CC engine (AQ110) and I got so fed up with those seals that I was seriously considering tapping all the"female"housings, threading in hose barbs and going with hoses and clamps like the rest of the word. Never did this as I "bought a bigger boat"... Volvo drive still, but ChrisCraft 283 CID/185HP.
