Hi there,

Daft question!!

Removed the dizzy from my AQ171C and my son removed the guide bush from it.

Course he can't remember which way up it was !!

Can anyone tell me if the lug with the part number on it goes to the top or the bottom of the slot please.

Got the workshop manual, but the picture is unclear.

Don't want to put the timing out - got enough problems !!

Regards

Doug

I guess that I'm not familiar with the term Guide Brush.

Here's a view of the 171C ignition distributor.
Which part are you asking about?

I will suggest that when you go to set/adjust the ignition timing, that you not only set BASE advance, but that you also look at the progressive advance and the full in advance (aka TA .... total advance).
Make sure that this is correct as per the OEM specs.
NOT Seloc.... NOT Clymers..... Volvo Penta OEM only.

Hi Rick,

Yep, got that view thanks.

There is a plastic bush in the bolt slot on the port side of the distributor which locates the distributor correctly when it is affixed to the cylinder head.

The timing on these engines is electronic and cannot be advanced or retarded by moving the dizzy.

Don't think that the bush centres the bolt in the slot, therefore conclude that there must be a "right way up".

At the moment it is a 50/50 shot as my son can't remember which way up it was before he pulled it out !

Regards,

Doug
