aq170a fuel pump

New member here. I have a 6 cylinder Volvo Penta AQ170A, which I rebuilt about 10 years ago. I did not replace the fuel pump and it still runs fine with the 1970 factory installed pump. But I can't imagine that it's not on borrowed time and the check valves no longer hold, because I was having to crank it longer than necessary if it sat for about a week. I solved that problem with an inline check valve. The automotive pump fits this B30 block exactly and I wonder if anyone has run one on these motors. I know the fuel pressure is higher on the auto pumps. I can't find a replacement marine pump, not that will ship it to the U.S. anyway. Thanks in advance. Dan

I'm going to try the automotive pump. I'll install it today and test the pressure reading. I know it could put out as much as twice what the marine engine needs, so if it's high, I'll reduce it with more gaskets, shifting the pump further from the cam and reducing the stroke and therefore the pressure. If I can get the correct pressure, then I'm just going to run that. I read elsewhere about tapping the weep hole for a threaded hose fitting and installing a safety line, so I'll do that if I can get the correct pressure.

If the automotive one has a vent hole for the diaphram and you use it then leave your next of kin info where somebody will find it,.There may not be much of you leftt o identify after the explosion

You obviously didn't read all my posts. I plan to drill and tap the weep hole with threads and installing a fitting that I will connect to a clear safety hose running up to inside the flame arrestor, where it will be mounted. The auto pump worked perfectly as far as fuel pressure, so the next step is the safety line. And this safety feature will never be used, since I plan to replace the pump every few years and I've never seen a Volvo fuel pump leak out the weep hole when newer than a few years. I worked at a Volvo dealer as an ASE certified mechanic in the 90's and worked on many B30 engines. I'm not worried at all with the plan for this boat engine. So, if you can, tell me why this plan won't work.
