AQ170A 270 What is it like to use

This week end I laun

"HI all,
This week end I launched my newly restored boat for the first time.
It has an AQ170A / 270 setup.

I just want to know if what I experienced is normal for this engine / drive combination.

The water temp is always between 158 and 176 F.
The oil pressure is 70 PSI when warm and engine is reved. Drops to 40 PSI when idling warm.

After going forwards, when I get into neutral and then into reverse, I hear a "thud" which is the stern drive going back a bit and the reverse latch locking on the trim adjusting rod (drive does not pop up in reverse)
This also happens when I put it into forward.

There is a lot of noise when I rev it to 3000 RPM or so and there is also a slight vibration.
This I suspect is a bad prop. When I rev the engine without shifting the drive into gear, it has a smooth sound and it is not loud and there is no vibration at all.

Please let me know if these operationg conditions are normal for this set up.

"What you described doesn'

"What you described doesn't sound right to me. First, the temp is a little high. Could be rust in the thermostat if you haven’t run it in a while, or sea water junk in your oil cooler passage ways, or a impeller on the way out, or junk in your main water filter (if your engine has that option. Second, I have one with a 280 out drive and a large clunk is abnormal. Check the down lock by placing it down and locked while on the trailer and proceed to grab the out drive and pulling forward and aft. If it has a lot of play and clunks, then adjust the down lock. Otherwise recognize there is a bump that you will normally hear just by engaging the gear. It has to do with the gears and prop going from rest to idle speed. You could try lowering your idle RPM and see if that noise is less pronounced. Good Luck"
