"Hi guys,

Are the water circulation pumps available for the AQ170 & the B30 direct replacements? Ie can I buy a pump for a B30 & fit it straight to my AQ170?

I ask as there is a big price difference between volve & volvo penta pricing for what may be the same part.

Thanks

"I've run the Volvo Penta part # through various pump brand cross-over indexs over the years and have never found a way around VP. You could try taking the pump into an auto store and comparing then side by side,as I have found during my 30+ years of doing this that the after market manufacturers dont always KNOW they have a cross-over from a marine part.Good luck."

thanks cobe. I've got the pump off the motor & will take with me to compare. Hopefully they are the same! If so I will save $600!!! btw both are volvo pumps - 1 has penta added ;-)

I've heard the same thing

I've heard the same thing that Cobe just mentioned.

Some friction supply and rebuilder companies also rebuild engine circulating pumps. There is one here in our city that does.
It may be worth asking.

"Hi,

The AQ170 is originall

"Hi,

The AQ170 is originally salt water cooled, unless you have somehow converted it to a closed cooling system. If it is salt water cooled, I don't think that a circulating pump desigend for fresh water or "closed cooling" system will work....at least not for a long time."

"I don't know if this is a fair comparison..... but for the Raw Water cooled marine V-8 engines, the circ pump uses the SS rear cover, a Bronze impeller and of equal or greater importance, the special ceramic shaft seal that does not require the lubricating properties of Ethylene Glycol. (housing/bearing pack are same)

Given that, I'd have to agree with Eduardo in-that an AQ 170 Circ pump for Raw Water cooling would require the same technology!

IOW's Phillip, even if it were to mate up, I'd not use the automotive version..... it will fail shortly! (salt water or river/lake water)
Best to buy one from Volvo Penta, or have this one remanufactured for marine use (if you can find a company that does this)."
