"I've not been around here
"I've not been around here since September, when after a summer spent swapping out components and upgrading the Solex carbs to a single Weber culminated in a big end failure on the first run out...
Anyway, I had the engine pulled out of the boat last week and yesterday decided to have a look. I took off the rocker cover and the camshaft looked in remarkably good condition. No pitting on the surfaces, nice cam profiles. So I removed the cylinder head to check the bores and pistons. Again, all looked well, no real evidence of bore wear. Next up, the sump off. As suspected I found bits of disintegrated shell bearings. I've not had the crankshaft out yet, but assuming that it's not badly scored or ovalled I'm thinking of having the crank reground and undersize shell bearing fitted. The rest of the engine looks too good to bin and if I end up paying the same to rebuild the engine as I would to source a second-hand runner then I reckon I'm better off taking that option.
However, given VPs daylight robbery prices, are the bearings for this engine the same as I could source from a Volvo car parts dealer for a B230 engine?"
