"about to change the rubber fitting behind the sea water pump because when i pulled the pump off i noticed the attached to the shaft of the back of the water pump was a cross that was rusty.didnt realise till making enquiries that this cross was not a seperate part but was in fact a part of the rubber that had detached from the rubber fitting.my question is the the fitting (hub) that is bolted to the gear ,is this infacr a steel fitting.if so the rubber fitting then fits onto the water pump shaft and then fits into the fitting on the gear.when i took the water pump off all i had at the end of the shaft was a bit of slightly corroded metal which looked like it fitted into the bottom fitting, but i think this bit on steel supposed to be moulded into the rubber the fitting that goes into the hub that is attached to the motor.is the fitting that is attached to the motor plain steel or internally rubber mounted."

"I think you are talking about parts 26 in the following link:

http://www.dougrussell.com/partscatalog/volvo_omc/index.cfm?fuseaction=comp&grou p=1956&GroupList=1943,1944,1945,1946,1947,1948,1949,1950,1951,1952,1953,1954,195 5,1956,1957,1958,1959,1960,1961,1966,1962,1963,1964,1965,1967,1968,1969,1970,197 1,1972,1973,1974,197

That fitting is plain steel, and I have no idea why it is listed for about $100 (perhaps because it is a VP "marine" part that you cannot get anywhere else unless you make one yourself)"
