"I have just purchased to seal

"I have just purchased to seals part number 831892-5.There are 2 seals that go between the Plastic strainer and the and the heat exchanger. When I purchased the second hand strainer body and strainer insert. I removed the old strainer and found that there was no gasket(part number 831892-5)between the strainer body and heat exchanger body, where the manal and exploded view shows. When I pulled the old one off the heat exchanger I found that there was no rubber gaskets(part number 831892-5).I am sure that the strainer plastic body that I purchased was of a AQ125 and it said that it also fits a AQ140.AQ145.When putting it together it seems that there is to much gap between the plastic stainer and the heat exchanger base.there is also a nylon ring that fits over the heat exchanger base so the plastic strainer bodt can fit onto.At the top of the heat exchanger of the ther is a rubber seal that sit inside the base of the haet excahnger and it seems that the nylon seal fits on top of this to put pressure on the seal eliminating leaks. My question is do the seals I purchased have to be utilised(because they were'nt any before)or is this just for the AQ125 stainer. It just seems to me that if I install these 2 seals that the strainer will be siting a bit high and the seperation inside the stainer may let water into the wrong chambers somehow.Anybody help on this situation will be appreciated."

I managed to see the explpded

I managed to see the explpded view that you are guiding me to BUT my original question:When putting it together it seems that there is to much gap between the plastic stainer and the heat exchanger base.there is also a nylon ring that fits over the heat exchanger base so the plastic strainer bodt can fit onto.At the top of the heat exchanger of the ther is a rubber seal that sit inside the base of the haet excahnger and it seems that the nylon seal fits on top of this to put pressure on the seal eliminating leaks. My question is do the seals I purchased have to be utilised(because they were'nt any before)or is this just for the AQ125 stainer. It just seems to me that if I install these 2 seals that the strainer will be siting a bit high and the seperation inside the stainer may let water into the wrong chambers somehow.Anybody help on this situation will be appreciated.

"Stan,

The exploded view shows you which components you need and where to install them. If you are installing them correctly and the plastic sleeve is original, then the strainer should not be sitting high.

Also, the VP parts site shows that the strainer for the AQ125 and the AQ145 are the same part number.

"I might try and explain mysel

"I might try and explain myself a little bit clearer ,I hope.all the parts (the 2 rubber seals) seamn to fit ok,but there is a rubber seal in the top of the heat exchanger (incorperated in the body)that is a different size that the ones I have (831892)there is a nylon spacer (this is tapered) that fits over the top of the heat exchanger and fits inside the plastic strainer body.I guess that the spacer tapered down to squeeze onto the seal that is in the top of the heat exchanger.when I put this all together there is a distance between the plastic body of the strainer and the top of the heat exchanger. If I put the 2 bolts that hold down the plastic strainer to the top of the heat exchanger maybe this will clamp down the strainer to the top of the heat exchanger. My confusion is that non of these where present before and there was no leaks. Also looking inside the strainer I find ther are 2 chambers, water in and water out.I am thinking that if I do not clamp it down enought that i will have problems with the water not going in the proper direction and or building up some back pressure and upsetting the heating cycle.these rubbers seals are about3mm thick and to screw tem down will take a bit of pressure ,and when I do this will there be enough pressure to segregate the water flow in the plastic strainer.your thought please."

If I am not clear enought I ca

If I am not clear enought I can post some picture when I find out how to do this.let me know if you require these to clarify the situation.

"Stan, please refer to the exp

"Stan, please refer to the exploded view in the link I gave you. There are only two seals between the strainer and the top of the heat exchanger, and a plastic sleeve in between the strainer and the top of the heat exchanger. If I recall correctly, the lower seal is to seal between the heat exchanger cover and the heat exchanger neck; and the upper seal is to seal between the strainer and the heat exchanger neck. The plastic sleeve is just a spacer between the strainer and the heat exchanger cover to ensure that the strainer is not compressed against the heat exchanger cover and prevent the plastic housing from breaking.

If you have on top of the heat exchanger another gasket other that the two in the exploded view that are marked as part 10, I suggest that the previous boat owner may have done some modifications to keep the boat running without installing new original parts. My suggestion is that you install the gaskets as per the exploded view."
