"1.just bought first boat, 1990 sportcraft 1900, can you start and run the engine without the prop turning? seems like i have to give it power to get it started and when i do that makes the prop turn.2.just found out that i need to plug the drain on bottum of the outdrive when running out of water, if not will this cause a loss of power to motor, i got the engine started but had no power, had to keep the throttle down and prop spinning but it seemed like it wouldnt come up to speed."

"Good choice, I have an '89 1900 sprint that had sat for a few years and I and am still working through all of the bugs. You need to slide the shifter to the left to keep it in neutral. This way you can give it throttle without shifting into gear. The next item to check is the timing. Mine ran about 2200 RPM at full throttle and would not get anywhere near on plane. We twisted the dist. cap around as far as we could and it picked right up. I still need to work on the timing, but it got me through the 4th weekend."

"Yes, you can start the engine without the prop turning. The control box xhould have a feature allowing you to run the throttle cable while disengaging the shift cable.

I have run many, many times the outdrive on "ears" in my driveway and most of the times I do not plug the drain. However, it is a better plactice to have a large pail where you can submerge the outdrive while testing, and in the menatime keep filling the pail with a garden hole while you are running the engine. This way you ensure that there is an adequate water flow through the cooling system."

"I use the "trash can" method.... Put the outdrive in a trash can of water and run it to make sure all is ok.

"i have a 130AQ with bad block,, will a 131AQ fit the same outdrive( not sure what number outdrive)and other fittings(exhaust, engine mounts)??"
 
"The AQ131 should fit your cur

"The AQ131 should fit your current bellhousing. However, you will need a new exhaust pipe (part 22) as the AQ131 exhaust manifold has a different angle.
