"Engine running fine but not totaly happy with Solex carb, any recommendations for aftermarket replacement would be appreciated."
 
Search the Volvo Penta forum f

Search the Volvo Penta forum for "Weber". Some people have reported positive results by going from Solex to Weber.

"I haven't tried it, but you may want to consider upgrading from an A cam to a V cam if by installing twon carbs you are looking for some extra power. Also, if you install twin carbs, make sure you synchronize them properly."

"thanks for that El, don't think I will bother if I have to change the cam. Happy with the top end-getting 33 knots on a 19' sports craft it just seems sluggish out of the hole but used to having 2 stroke Mercury outboards this is first inboard motor."

"You don't have to change the cam, I am just mentioning that VP 4 cylinder engines with dual carb usually have a V or a K cam. The A cam comes installed on engines with single carb, but that does not mean it won't work with a two carb arrangement (however, I haven't tried it)."
