"Hi
I have an aq131a ( 2.3l volvo w/275 outdrive ).
I cannot seem to get water from the outdrive up to the raw water pump. I hooked up a hose with the water clamp to the outdrive but it will not syphon up to the pump. Seloc says it is a self priming system. I would think that with water pressure from a hose would force it's way up to the pump with the engine running. I did pour water into the filter housing and it does pump it out the exhaust, but it won't draw it up from the outdrive. Any help would be appreciated."

"The raw water hose connector

"The raw water hose connector in the outdrive may be corroded/perforated, or the raw water pump impeller may need to be replaced. Check this

Also, use the "search" function in the forum on top of the page and search for messages with the keywords <font color=""ff0000"">hose</font> AND <font color=""0000ff"">connector</font>. Yours is a very common problem and it has been discussed many times."

"Thanks El Pescador
I did try

"Thanks El Pescador
I did try a search and actually pulled that post up but when I saw it say aq170 i didn't go any further.

Would you or anyone else have a procedure for getting in the outdrive to check this area. I have the SELOC manual but it is vague.

Thanks"

"Thanks so much for your help

"Thanks so much for your help and I will refer to the search program in the future on a wider search.
I have been doing automotive for 25+ years but am new to boats, esp the drive system,... I got the boat with the motor basically in a box.

The problem, it appears, is two things:

1) While the impeller was new on the sea water pump,... the shaft seal was shot (bad)
2) When I pulled the hose from the water housing on the outdrive, there was no lower section to the hose fitting,... it was powder.

So again THANK YOU for all your help!"

"You are welcome. Once you reb

"You are welcome. Once you rebuild the raw water pump and install a new hose connector, chances are you will never have to worry about this type of problem again (or at least, not in a long time).

Happy boating.
