"I know this is going to get El Pescador's attention so I am hoping to hear from him.
Cold start problem,.... I can keep it running by throttling a bit until it warms up. (no need for either,... accelerator pump works great
)
Once warmed up it idles fine with good air/fuel mixture response.
I know El Pescador highly recommends the Pertronix electronic ignition kit but my question is,.... How does a different igniton system make the cold start better? I would be more than willing to buy it if I could understand how it can help cold running problems."

If 'El' is sleeping ma

If 'El' is sleeping may I try to make a comment.
An electronic ignition system gives a better controlled spark (timing)and stronger spark at particularly low rpm and cranking. Points are more like an old fashioned relay system with mechanical play and slow reactions. Electronic systems are more direct and with shorter reaction time -on or off!

"So I am still a bit confused,

"So I am still a bit confused,... old school tells me more fuel less air for cold engine, how does better spark make the difference? Even computer controlled engines run richer while cold, after they warm up then they regulate fuel etc etc. If the solex had a choke ( in my understanding ) then everything would be peachy creamy.

Bear with me,... what am I not seeing?"

"Unless You want to modify You

"Unless You want to modify Your carb system and add a choke, the only other option is to try to improve what might ignite whatever mixture of fuel/air that is in the combustion chamber at a given time.
By reducing voltage drop in primary caused by points system You get a stronger spark. By reducing discharge time You get a stronger spark. By having a better controlled timing You get the spark at the right time."

"Thanks Morten,
So i am going

"Thanks Morten,
So i am going to assume that boat motors,... especially this one in particular, with the solex, is designed to run richer anyways. So with a more efficient ignition system this mixture running through a cold motor will compensate for the poorly mixed air/fuel until the motor can warm up and the mixture becomes more atomized? Hmmm ,.... DUH! That takes me back to my race days. We never had chokes, but ran hot ignition systems like Accel etc,... of course before we would demand the performance we would warm em up."

Hi; I replaced carb. and mani

Hi; I replaced carb. and manifold with the Weber K861 and it solved all these problems on my 151. Take care Lee;
