hi there, im a newbie to the site but have used it for ages as a source of information, most of you guy certainly know what your talking about! the problem im having is in the repair of a boat a friend bought a number of years ago!! to be honest the only good thing about it was the covers!!! after a few grand of hull and engine repairs i have finally got to the outdrive. have found most of the parts i need but have been unable to locate the trim limit switch anywhere??? i can find the push in type (vp 850710) but cannot find the threaded one anywhere? any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! my local vp dealer is completely useless and has only ever found 1 part i have been looking for. im at my wits end with him having to search through his computer and literally find my own parts! i am thinking now to make a housing to fit the push in switch if it will work?? i am fortunate enough to have friends with cnc machinery.has anyone ever tryed this??? please help..andy

many thanks for the tip!! will give them a try! dont know how it is stateside but extremely difficult to find parts for these motors in scotland

Andy, the 270 drive (unless this is a 270 "T" drive) will not have power trim, nor a limit switch of any type.
It will have a simple momentary DT toggle switch at the helm. It may also have an amber light.

Again, unless a "T" drive, this is a Lift Out unit only!

thanks rickardo for the info..i am aware that this is not "power" trim.. (should have mentioned earlier) it definately has a switch on top of the lift rod tube..(blue in colour and broken beyond identification) after reading your post i realise this may be to illuminate the amber light you mention?? the boat has no warning light i am aware of. the lift was not working when the boat was first put in the water and it regularly beaches when out on the loch so i rewired the trim for him without this switch but he hasnt the savvy (for want of a better expression) to figure out when the leg is up or down and burnt out the motor holding the switch for too long(i should perhaps say again this is my friends boat and he is really clueless with boats!!) i previously thought this was a limit switch but now (if im right) realise this could simply be to light a warning lamp to say the leg isnt fully down. . would still like to get this switch if poss to use it as a cut off for the trim down and will fit a lamp.

i also feel i owe you a lot of thanks as ive been reading your posts along with el pescadors for some years and always find what im looking for. all you guys that post are legends!!

Eduardo is a legend... I'm not... but thanks anyway. :D

The switch at the top is to sense when the vice rod is fully retracted, and to pull the negative path out of the loop, so that the motor stops.
As a second role, it provides negative for the amber light, if so equipped.

NOTE: DO NOT attempt to power the motor while circumventing the switching system.
The torque of the motor (if continuing to retract the vice rod) will damage the cast iron portion of the clutch drive system.
Now you'll have NO UP/DOWN action at all.
This is an expensive part if you can even find one.
