"My oil cooler seems to be leaking oil - fresh water goes in and oil/water mix comes out the other end. Does the AQ130A actually need the oil cooler? One solution is to remove the oil cooler. I believe the AQ131 does not have one. What purpose is it serving? Is it to prevent breakdown of the oil? If so, would today's oils be able to handle the increased oil temperature without the cooler? Thanks for your help."

"I am afraid You need an oil cooler on this engine. It is an old design with somewhat unorthodox cooling system circulation. Take out the thermostat, and you will discover the engine will run HOT!
I will NOT recomend you to run without."

"If the oil cooler is leaking,

"If the oil cooler is leaking, it could be from not being drained during winterization and can be repaired by just about any radiator repair shop. I was paying about $20 when I worked for a couple of boat dealers."

"Hi Morten - Thanks for the in

"Hi Morten - Thanks for the input, but I'm not quite following you. I wouldn't take out the thermostat. I would just send the cooling water from the water pump directly to the engine block instead of through the oil cooler first."

Nothing special- they'll d

Nothing special- they'll do a pressure test and see where it's leaking.

Just an indication of a somewh

Just an indication of a somewhat unusual cooling system where the oil cooler is a major part of the engine cooling system. Normally engines runs cold when the thermostat is removed. And a 'warning' not to remove the thermostat to encrease engine cooling!

"What EVER U DO , DO NOT SEND

"What EVER U DO , DO NOT SEND A LINE FROM THE OIL COOLER STRAIGHT TO THE BLOCK, OTHER THAN THE 2 MAIN COPPER LINES. SOME IDIOT PUT A BRAKE LINE TO THE BLOCK TO THE OIL COOLER, ON MY ENGINE WHEN I HAD JUST BOUGHT IT,THE ENGINE DEFINITELY RAN COOLER AT ABOUT 140, BUT CHECK YOUR OIL WITH THE WHITE CREAM ALL OVER. WATER WILL LEAK INTO YOUR OIL. LEADING YOU TO THINK THERE IS A CRACK IN THE BLOCK OR A BLOWN HEAD GASKET.LOTTA MONEY GONE BECAUSE OF THIS $2.OO FIX. KEEP THE OIL COOLER ON, IT KEEPS YOUR OIL COOL HENCE THE NAME. UNLESS YOU WOULD RATHER HAVE YOUR BOAT RUNNING VERY HOT?"
